Interior Design Schools Help To Beautify Your World

Interior Design Schools
If you’re like me and love the home makeover shows, interior design schools may be the beginning of a new career for you. I love to watch the difference an experienced designer can make in a room without even buying new furniture. I am not an interior designer, but I do enjoy moving furniture around, much to my husband’s chagrin. He is convinced he will one day start to sit in his favorite chair and end up on the floor. I just get tired of the same old thing and love to change things around.
Throughout most of history, interior design was reserved for large public places, homes of the wealthy, palaces and even tombs. The ordinary people did not have the resources to beautify their surroundings. When the middle class started to emerge during the Renaissance, interior design spread to the masses and ever since designers have been improving the look, feel, and usefulness of our homes. Interior design is
Not just about ornamentation any more. It’s creating a total environment, a beautiful, functional place.
When you choose an interior design school, there are a few things to keep in mind. You will want to investigate their design studio, what computer hardware and software will be used, and will you get hands on experience. Some school has a relationship with architectural or interior design firms to help students get real world experience in addition to classroom time. A good school will be accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation. CIDA has been holding schools to a single standard since 1970.
Drawing, drafting, and perspective are very important. Computer-aided design (CAD) will allow you to turn 2D drawings into scale-model site plans. Art history, form and space, materials, concept presentations, construction, furniture design, horticulture, ergonomics and feng shui are all things you will study. Renovation and preservation is another whole area of study and most importantly, you will need some business courses if you plan to have your own firm at some point.
In most states and Canada you will need to be licensed to be an interior designer. Interior design school will prepare you for the certification exam offered by the International Council for Interior Design Qualifications. Passing this exam is also a requirement for membership in many interior-design organizations. This may seem a frivolous career to some, but studies show that living and working in a well designed, comfortable environment makes for a happy and productive person. Stop being like me and pushing furniture around and get to interior design school. You’ll be happy and so will your clients.
